TL;DR: Honest Hours tracks when you're active or idle at your computer. It does NOT track websites, keystrokes, screenshots, or any personal content. Only work session data is sent to our servers.

1. What we collect

The Honest Hours Chrome extension collects the following data:

Employee name and company code — entered manually by the user in the extension settings
Session timestamps — when you clock in and clock out
Active and idle time — whether you are actively using your computer or have been idle (no keyboard/mouse activity for 5+ minutes)
Heartbeat signals — a status ping sent every 5 minutes with your current active/idle state

2. What we do NOT collect

Websites visited or browsing history
Keystrokes or typed content
Screenshots or screen recordings
File contents or application data
Personal messages or communications
IP addresses or device fingerprints

3. How we use your data

Collected data is used solely to:

Display real-time team activity on the employer dashboard
Calculate daily active and idle hours
Show clock in/out history

We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising or any purpose beyond the Honest Hours service.

4. Data storage

Session data is stored on our API server at honesthours-api.onrender.com. Data is retained for up to 90 days. Your employer can view your session data as long as you are using the same company code.

Local state (your name, company code, current session) is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device.

5. Employee consent

Honest Hours is designed for workplaces where employees are aware that activity tracking is in use. Employers are responsible for informing their team that this tool is deployed and obtaining appropriate consent under applicable employment law.

6. Your rights

You can stop all data collection at any time by clicking "Clock Out" or removing the extension. To request deletion of your stored session data, contact us at sat@installsmart.ai.
